Maggie Valley

Maggie Valley bills it's self as the Gateway to the Smoky Mountains. It's that and more.

It's a great place to stay for your family vacation. It's centrally located for many activities in the NC Smoky Mountains.
Lodging and activities are moderately priced. There is a variety of things to do.

Maggie Valley is Vibrant Once Again

Just a couple of years ago, Maggie Valley was slowing down. Ghost Town in the Sky had closed down because the owner was retiring. This had a ripple
effect throughout the town.

Last May, Ghost Town reopend with new owners. And, there are rumors of a large outdoor oriented complex coming just outside the town. Stay tuned. These two have added new life and enthusiasm to Maggie Valley. And, that makes it a more fun place to stay and play.

Maggie Valley always ranks as one of our top family vacation destinations in the Smoky Mountains. The whole town is friendly to families. Cabins,
vacation rental homes, and hotels and motels, and others await you.

Catalooche Ranch and Ski Area and Ghost Town in the Sky are Maggie Valley's big attractions. but there is much more.

Within minutes of the town there is gem mining and horseback riding. The Wheels Through Time motorcylce musuem is a popular attraction.

With about a 30 minute drive, you can reach the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee, whitewater rafting, the
Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, and Asheville and the Biltmore House.

Top Family Activities in Magge Valley

Ghost Town in the Sky - This western themed family theme park was once the most popular attraction in Western Noth Carolina. An aging owner and aging equipment lead to a slow decine and finally it being shot down.

In May 2007, new owners put a lot of money into Ghost Town and reopened it. The Wild West lives in Maggie Valley once again.!

Cataloochee - Skiing and snow tubing in the winter, a a ranch in the summer. Cataloochee is a great little resort. It's my favorite ski area. It's very family friendly. There are bigger and probably even better ski resorts, but Cataloochee wins my award for being the most family-friendly ski resort within reasonable driving distance for most of the southeast.

Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum - If there is a motorcycle enthusiast in your group,  this is a must see.

Other things nearby - Gem mining, horseback riding, and miniature golf can all be found in or very close to Maggie Valley

Adventure in and around Maggie Valley

NC Whitewater Rafting - Whitewater water rafting is one of the most popular summer activities in the NC Smoky Mountains. There are three great rivers within an easy drive.

Family rafting on the Tuckaseigee River, as young as age 4. Raft the popular Nantahala River, as young as age 7.  The Pigeon River, in east Tennessee, as young as age 8.  More of a drive will take you to some of bigger rivers in the region.

You can fly with the Vertical Wind - It's taken several years for the owners of Maggie Valley's Vertical Wind to get it up and going. Minimum age is 12.

Hikes, Nature and Views

The Great Smoky Mountain National Park can be accessed easily through Cherokee. Or, you can go to the Park's more remote Cataloochee area. This is where elk have been re-introduced to the Park.

The Blue Ridge Parkway forms the western boundary of Maggie Valley. This long and narrow National Park is great for scenic drives, a picnic, short hikes, and amazing vistas.
